Poultry in a pocket-size book? Why not, when the birds in question are neatly corralled into an appealing little volume, just right for gift giving, easy browsing, or tucking into a bag or pocket for quick reference at a poultry show or auction.

More than 100 poultry pals show their amazing colors in full-page images that capture their good looks and lively personalities. Intricate feather patterns, imposing crests and wattles, and grinning beaks are just a few of their appealing features. From laying hens to heritage turkeys to adorable ducks, here are all the common barnyard favorites, plus rare breeds from around the world.

Facing each poultry portrait is an informational page offering facts about the breed and a handy at-a-glance reference bar identifying the type of poultry (chicken, turkey, duck, goose), its primary use (laying, meat, game, or ornamental bird), and its conservation status. Breeders, enthusiasts, and anyone who has ever paused to admire a handsome chicken will be delighted by the photographs and enlightened by the breed profiles in Pocketful of Poultry.

5pocketful of poultry  Jun 30, 2008
Great little book for choosing the breed of chickens you want. beautiful colored photos, short and easy to read descriptions of each breed. pocket sized so you can carry it any where. very helpful info. on what each breed is best for,be it for egg laying or meat or showing. I would recommend this book to anyone interested it choosing the breed of chicken they want to raise.

5Crazy Chickens  Mar 27, 2008
This little book is really fun and, though strictly factual, highlights all the things I find inherently amusing about chickens. Great photographs, brief but informative text for each different chicken breed. If you, like me, are a city girl who wishes she had a pet chicken, this is a fun book!

4Nice- but just an abbreviated version of Storey's Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds   Dec 14, 2007
This is a nice little book, but I was disappointed to discover that it is an abbreviated format of Storey's Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds.

If you have the other book, you should be aware that this one is just excerpted text and photos from it. Both books are very nice, but you only need one! "Pocketful of Poultry" is a good "stocking stuffer" - the larger format book has a bit more information and larger photos, so would be the better choice unless you want a small book for some reason.

4Beautiful photographs  Dec 05, 2007
This book is chock full of beautiful photographs. It has some good solid information, too, but should not be considered a reference book. Just looking through it I am so, so tempted to get more chickens....

5Pocket full of information  Nov 04, 2007
It won't fit in a man's pocket, but its a great handbook of poultry. I have the large book by the same author, but I would stongly recommend having both books.
