A couple working six months per year for 50 hours per week on 20 acres can net $25,000-$30,000 per year with an investment equivalent to the price of one new medium-sized tractor. Seldom has agriculture held out such a plum. In a day when main-line farm experts predict the continued demise of the family farm, the pastured poultry opportunity shines like a beacon in the night, guiding the way to a brighter future.

"All of us interested in seeing an American rural revival should thank Joel and Teresa Salatin for going to the effort and expense to share their experiences and recommendations for pastured poultry with you." —Allan Nation, Editor, The Stockman Grass Farmer

5Great Resource for pastured poultry.  Jul 15, 2010
After seeing this done on a farm in Ky thought I would try myself. This book has been a good resource on Pastured Poultry. Although I consider myself pretty knowledgeable in poultry I learned many things from the book. It is a little old but by far the majority of information stays the same. We are using the system and it does work well. I would highly recommend.

5The best guide to raising commercial chickens naturally!  Apr 15, 2010
Any book by Joel Salatin is chock full of practical no-nonsense advice for living and thriving in the country. Chickens, even in the city, are now considered a "gateway animal" to more natural connections to our food. A step-by-step guide for making money with broilers, chickens and eggs.

5A wealth of information!  Mar 18, 2010
This is a very comprehensive look at poultry farming. I have raised chickens for food for my family in the past and it has been good experience but to raise poultry for sale is a whole other story. He lists the good the bad and everything that you need to know in between. Why re-invent the wheel when you can learn from somebody who has been doing it for years, what a time and money saver.

5Common Sense  Feb 10, 2010
Mr. Salatin's approach is direct and easy to understand; while giving a good idea of the potential behind his method for raising pastured chicken he offers a realistic picture of likely trouble so the newcomer's expectations can be based on good, detailed information that is candid but refreshingly filled with basic common sense, which, sadly, is no longer very common. The detailed description of his system, accompanied with the reasoning behind it, is as practical a manual as anyone can desire to get started in the right direction by following a method with a proven track record that dispels unreachable fantasies while providing a well grounded vision of the opportunity for a successful enterprise without taking the romantic essence of the pioneering spirit which the Salatin's have resurrected in modern America. After reading this book, and two others by Mr. Salatin, I must say they are easy and enjoyable reading full of useful information.

5down to earth chicken keeping  May 26, 2009
Detailed explainations from a farmer author/speaker about raising chickens both for meat and eggs. I attended a presentation by Mr. Salatan recently and was glad to review his principles and read more detail regarding pasture-raised chickens. Many questions I may have had are all covered in his book. Pastured Poultry Profits also covers companian livestock and home processing of chickens. We now have our first 75 chicks; and I know it will be rewarding work.
