Equine Behavior: A Guide for Veterinarians and Equine Scientists is the quintessential reference for all who really want to know what makes horses tick. Research in horse behavior has made great strides in recent years. This book examines the truth behind modern trends and ancient traditions. Full of insight, it rounds up the latest findings of practitioners and researchers from all over the world, drawing on both cutting-edge research and best practice. With more than 1,000 references, the book explores equine behavior from first principles, by considering the behavior of free-ranging horses and focusing on ways in which management and training influence the responses of their domestic counterparts. Equine physicians, trainers, handlers and owners all need to be students of equine behavior, because the first sign of a problem is often a change in behavior. So, whether you own, ride, lead, groom, feed or heal horses, what you observe is vital to your understanding.

5Excellent book  Feb 11, 2008
I bought another book on horse behavior and it has nothing to compare with this one. It is excellent, lots of content with different perspective. The author offers the horse's point of view of human management of their needs. Chapters are interesting, complete, the layout is firendly users, pics helps to understand. A must, as soon as you are seriously interested to understand equine behvior.

5Great Book  Dec 01, 2005
If you are at all intersted in horse behavior this is an excellent book to have. It is easy to read, but yet doesn't dumb down the information. Well worth the price.

5WOW! Every horsey person should own this!  Nov 15, 2005
Don't let the academic title fool you - this is a very accessible, reader-friendly book. It is an enormous collection of information on horse behavior with extremely useful illustrations. It takes the reader through all aspects of equine behavior, from the aspects familiar to many owners and trainers, to the more subtle aspects that will undoubtably assist everyone who is seriously interested in working around or communing with horses.

I can't recommend this highly enough. Worth every penny of the textbook-over-the-top price (!) it is entertaining reading, and will prove a great and lasting addition to any serious horse person's library.
